We need to be clear about why they're targeting Minneapolis and why Renee Good is dead
A friend pointed out to me that there are currently more ICE/CBP officers in Minnesota than there are police officers in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and that kind of staggered me. Sure enough, there are around 600 officers in both of those cities, and it is reported that ICE/CBP, pushing all their agents into the area, have 2000 agents there. It is not a stretch of any kind to call it an occupation, and it’s being done because a bunch of right wing goons did sham investigations into daycare centers for content, catching the eye of the federal government who are looking for a new place for their agents to make their own fascism-flavored content. This is a show of force, an unsustainable pushing of all of CBP/ICE’s chips in done to try to enforce their will on a city, or at the very least aggravate the city enough that they can get new content to reenforce the pernicious and pervasive right-wing myth that every city is a hellhole. And we should be clear here about why they are so content on occupying Minneapolis — there is a portion of the population, and to be clear here I am talking about a portion of the white population, who thinks that any kind of mixing of cultures, sexualities and gender identities, and races is dangerous and unacceptable, and that any white person who supports it is a fool who is a danger to themselves and others and must be “saved” from it by scaring them, either by making them believe bullshit that gets fed to them via algorithmic social media, or scared into silence through force. These are the people who are in power right now, these are the people who are vocally standing with ICE/CBP in your communities. When someone defends the murder of Renee Good and say she deserved it for not following orders, they mean that she deserved it for being enough of a sucker to stand with the immigrant communities against the show of force that was supposed to silence her. They mean she deserved it for being a woman who wouldn’t do what she was told.
