The package arrived last week, and I'm finally in a position to post about it!
A photo of an order from a pen shop: on the left, a beautifully-bottled Akkerman ink, color Laan van Nieuw Oost Indië Indigo. Lower middle is a Waterman pen converter, or reusable cartridge. To the right, an only-partially visible fountain pen, a Faber-Castell "Ambition" (Good grief, I *hate* that name!) The rust-orange of the barrel is pearwood. A small gift included by the shop: visible atop a sea of mint-colored packing "peanuts". Enclosed in a near-transparent organza gift bag, tied closed with a pink ribbon, a pair of Haagse Hopje hard candy sweets. They taste a bit like milky coffee, and are somewhat attached to the Hagenaar's identity. A sample of writing, with the new pen and ink.  Text, translated from (mostly) Dutch: "Laan van Nieuw-Oost Indië Indigo ink, from Akkerman, a gift for Fountain Pen Day. Written with an "Ambition" from Faber-Castell, F point." Then, in English, "The jury's still out."

Weirdness: in the *mean* time, our European streaming service Tivify managed to get the sumo recorded, and not just whatever it was they had on the channel we were playing in expectation of our sumo.

What has changed is simple: people are scared of crossing Trump this time. In researching this piece, I interviewed dozens of figures, including lawmakers, private sector executives, retired senior military figures and intelligence chiefs, current and former Trump officials, Washington lawyers and foreign government officials. Such is the fear of jail, bankruptcy or professional reprisal, that most of these people insisted on anonymity. This was in spite of the fact that many of the same people also wanted to emphasise that Trump would only be restrained by powerful voices opposing him publicly. At times, it has felt like trying to report on politics in Turkey or Hungary.

Alas, poor Ambiorix! I knew him... from a commentary!

Half of the battle of regular journalling has been perfect being the enemy of good. Another has been understanding I get to decide what's "the right way" for me. And, apoarently, part of that is writing with fountain pen.

More self-directed occupatioonal therapy, I guess The paper is shodō paper, soft and absorbent. Accordion folded, and each "mountain fold" treated as a signature for the purposes of the Coptic binding. Using waxed embroidery floss & card stock from Flow magazine.
Another recent bookbinding project: a card-covered book stands open, spine facing toward the camera. The Coptic binding is done in dark red, contrasting with the cream of the paper. The covers are predominantly light green, with rough shapes indicating flowers and darker-hued leaves. Same book as previous, but viewed from the inside. A blue thread holds the bookblock pages shut, to allow the insides of the covers to be seen together: they show a scene of a corner of a house, with one window visible, on the left side, and then a yard with trees and plants, also running through to the right-side inner cover. A bit of "hidden art".
