i can't think of any other JRPG that commits to its themes as hard as Xillia, and that cohesion makes it easy to love past its mild flaws. Milla is one of my favorite protagonists in the series, and Gaius my favorite villain. good-ass game, don't listen to the haters.

for all its flaws (clunky controls, slightly-too-extreme lack of explanation, rushed back half), it's still an incredibly unique, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant game. it's made me rethink how i experience games, and how "bad" elements can enhance a piece of art.
