Bookish boomer, leftie, no cats or dogs but I love them.
Good coffee at Riverlution this morning. Gardens heaving with teenage girls weeding. A school group having fun.

Checking privilege. Coffee this morning at Riccarton House and wandering amongst the peaceful grounds. Riccarton Bush reopened with a new boardwalk. Oasis of cool and birdsong.

Love it when a row of radishes pops up. So quick and cheerful. 🌱🇳🇿

New temple, old temple. Worshipping different gods, side by side.

Sumner was cheerful this morning and so many people and dogs out and about. Also some cafes packed with cyclists.

Can confirm. The Christmas cake (Tui Flower recipe) is in the oven. Phew. Joint effort, managed to avoid any drama.

Mildred was the star of the club carpark.

Sunday lunch at the club was slow cooked pork with fig chutney and mustard mash. Now time for a nap.

Last Night of the Proms, Otautahi. People are flagging it, draped in flags, waving flags, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra included. And there’s that flag representing. Big ups to the viola player who also wore a Tino Rangatiratanga flag.

Here for a short time but a good time. If you want divine scent in your garden plant a Duc de Brabant rhododendron. 🌱🇳🇿

I’ve had a lovely birthday starting with French toast at Miro and ending with a Queen Anne chocolate fish. Lovely presents including my own spurtle, handcrafted by J.

Just had beautiful lunch at Tussock Hill on Huntsbury Hill. Beautiful view over Christchurch, beautiful food including divine Wakame sourdough and a dessert menu that looks like this. Great place.

Someone was surveilling the Christchurch conference centre this morning. The drone hovered for a bit then swooped around. New police toy, who dis?

Tree of the day.

Red zone fun. A tree to climb, a natural playground to scramble and space to run.
September 27, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Avonside red zone this morning. Busy with people and dogs.

Not the best photo but the massed impact of new housing in bright, seaside colours is a breath of fresh air. New Brighton.

New Dallington footbridge. Water sparkling through the grid under foot, interesting design and could they make the plaque any smaller!
September 27, 2025 at 12:26 AM
New Brighton market for a nice community vibe. So much chat and laughter. Only downer the food stall getting a burn on and smoke drifting through the food area.

Today’s dilemma. The bloody blackbird singing joyously of Spring in my garden has got this sheet with a lovely purple spray. Do I hang it out again once I’ve washed it. Perfect drying day but the dryer seems safer.

Quirky book sale find. Who knew? Each story features a typewriter. I think I read he has a thing for old school typewriters.
September 20, 2025 at 12:00 AM
The Ngaio Marsh book sale was fun. Raffle tickets for some fun prizes, people recommending books, and book gossip. There is a new second hand bookshop opening on Stanmore Road next to the Richmond Club.

Who knew Curtis Sittenfeld has done a Pride and Prejudice thing. Throw in PD James and it’s an interesting themed lineup which I may enjoy. Book sale gems. 📚🇳🇿

@ianrankin1.bsky.social Tragic completist here. Went to a lovely book sale in aid of Ngaio Marsh House here in Christchurch. Groaning tables of crime, plenty of eager pickers.
