In 2015, we were visiting Chicago and my children saw Trump’s name on his building. They asked if he would be president and we laughed and said that he was just doing it as a grift. I still believe that to be true but the grift has grown exponentially.

Most of these folks are still offended that they haven’t been able to use the n-word in polite society since the 90s, and they’d rather burn the country to the ground than have to admit they actually were being racist when they said this thing.

My first thought for contextualization was Trump is coming to the forefront at the end of the Obama administration.
People started being AH around that time because the permission structures were created to behave that way.
