Spot on!

I find this all deeply saddening, but this is where we have been pushed, and we have to resists the urge to look at any factors other than the“who” and the “why”!

On the basis that the vast majority of people in this country fall into a single demographic, I would expect the attacker being white was not a shock. However, I think we are now stuck in a position where you have to say this sort of thing to head off “trouble” from people with nothing better to do.

When you have a complex problem like this and the solution is so simple, it makes you wonder why they just WON’T implement it. This sort of simple idea would have saved labour a lot of bad press and kept a lot of vulnerable people warmer. I won’t hold my breath waiting for it to be implemented!

On the basis that most products for the auto industry have to go through several countries to be ready, and the US does not do this itself at scale means there are months if not years to get this sort of thing up and running locally . How it is supposed to happen overnight is beyond me!
April 5, 2025 at 8:46 PM
…and all it took was a global catastrophe! Wow, pragmatic and considered is not always the way to go - by the looks of this mess!
April 5, 2025 at 7:49 PM
The speed at which they are rolling out this nonsense really means they can’t have thought that hard about it. Normally this would be carefully thought through and considered, this lots just half-arse it!

How far is he going to have to push until things either break, or the US electorate stand up and stop him? I get the whole election cycle normalcy, which is why we had to suck up having to have BREXIT happen, but he’s not damaging the US, he’s breaking everything, which isn’t business as usual!
April 3, 2025 at 7:31 PM
In normal times any man OR woman that caused this sort of damage would have serious questions to answer, and consequences to face. Sadly the consequences aren’t coming, YET, so carry on as you are! I almost feel like the grown ups have left the room and let the kids run wild!!!

Just because the American electorate voted to make the excessively rich richer, and themselves insignificant, doesn’t mean we have to flush ourselves down the toilet as well!
April 3, 2025 at 5:42 PM
He set out to leave a legacy. So far he’s been pretty unforgettable - the world over!
April 3, 2025 at 5:38 PM
No, I think we are dealing with idiots!
April 3, 2025 at 2:07 PM
On that note, when’s the Barry Collins “Dads jokes” book coming out?
April 3, 2025 at 11:41 AM
Anything that can help soften the shock of tariffs, and foster stronger bonds with our neighbours is a good thing in my eyes. Not everyone will agree, but how else are we to offset the shambles we are in.
April 3, 2025 at 9:51 AM
Ah, I think I see your point. In short “I don’t see anywhere else being practical”. The liberals are pushing for closer alignment to Europe, which is an ABSOLUTELY valid thing to do for me. But there seems to be resistance to admitting this because of the stigma/pain. We need to get over ourselves!
April 3, 2025 at 9:46 AM
Isn’t that unfair? What about Morrisons, ASDA, LIDL, ALDI, Waitrose and Sainsburys? Why do they not get the same “uplift”? Could these be the places you admire and are just trying to curry favour with them?
April 3, 2025 at 9:39 AM
I think my point was more “why do we have to choose a third option?” We have two massive trading partners that we benefit from in terms of import and export. Why do we HAVE to have a third more impractical alternative? For specific “food” types, maybe, for all “food” types, maybe not.
April 3, 2025 at 9:31 AM
I guess I would ask the counter question, “if one major partner is being difficult, why shouldn’t we deal with our other long term partner more closely?” Does this not seem like an obvious choice rather than having to strike impractical new deals with more remote countries?
April 3, 2025 at 9:17 AM
I am becoming really bitchy on this subject but this feels like “Look at me. I’m being a bully like you. Notice me!” What other reason could there be to NOT leverage tariffs against a state Tulsi Gabard was forced to admit was an “enemy” state!
April 3, 2025 at 9:12 AM
Good question. For me, the fact the food is closer and therefore fresher in the EU, and doesn’t incur the number of air miles/transport costs, makes this all seem like a backwards step on many fronts.
April 3, 2025 at 9:06 AM
Quick google around this says our trade in 2024 with Australia was about 5.9 billion, which is 10% of the trade with the US and about 2% of our trade with the EU.
April 3, 2025 at 8:58 AM
It’s “emperors new clothes”, but for real. We all know what we think of his behaviour. However, the mainstream news outlets are either protecting themselves or him, and NOT saying the obvious. Other media have no problems being frank about this, which is very refreshing/reassuring to see.
April 3, 2025 at 8:50 AM
I heard a similar thing about people “in the know” shorting the pound, but it’s nothing more than hearsay. Could you imagine what would happen if this was proved!
April 3, 2025 at 8:39 AM
I just did a quick Google for these numbers as I was astounded that the difference was this big. The Conservatives keep banging on about US exports, but they are a drop in the ocean compared to our nearest neighbours. Where was this sort of fact during BREXIT, when we neutered ourselves!?!?
April 3, 2025 at 7:35 AM
The key “drivers” of brexit will no doubt be ensuring that they do very well from the weakening of the world economies. The people blindly following the rhetoric will not! If we’d paid more attention, and looked beyond our own nose ends we’d be in a much better place!!!
