Interesting side note: Paul McCartney used to be in church choir when he was a boy. (I learned it from his carpool karaoke episode with James Corden in Liverpool—it’s a quite fun and touching episode actually.)

You’re welcome! I thought clip was amazing and saw another commenter had mentioned the full video was on YouTube. (I had to do screenshot and zoom in on logo because had no idea who was singing. Now discovered that a cappella choirs are a whole tradition at certain schools!)

Wow! That was beautiful.

No argument from me—rather just wondering about original request

I read Alive decades ago after finding a copy in a cabin that I was staying in during snow storm—story stayed with me ever since (and helped in that whatever situation I might sometimes find myself in, it was never as dire as theirs)

And Alive is absolutely gripping! (though I consider it more of a true-life adventure, like Into Thin Air (also amazing), and not sure if considered a “history book”. But we can make our own rules??)

Someone in my LWV book club just recommended The Spy and the Traitor as “one of the most entertaining nonfiction books I’ve read in a long time: a real-life Cold War espionage thriller that reads with the pace of a novel.” It definitely seems to fit the criteria!

Totally understand if “Ask Me Anything” was more for fun sciences questions (which I like too!). I work with cancer epidemiology data and there have been on/off threats to funding.

“CDC's National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) funds 50 cancer registries…”

Are state cancer registries that rely on federal funding (not all do) still able to report usual data to NPCR (National Program of Cancer Registries)?

Heard great things about The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown. (Full disclosure: I was on crew team at university so may be a little biased!)

Also the Maus tales by Art Spiegelman, about the Holocaust

How about graphically-illustrated history? Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during the revolution. Excellent!

My jaw dropped today (and that’s despite being desensitized by all the other horrible things we’ve heard to date)

And I’m sorry for the traumatic memories that are inevitably stirred up

Will focus on the positive memories 🕯️
