Special collections librarian. I'm interested in literary history, gardening and baking cakes. Personal account.
That's so weird though?

This is what I think too

I really don't know what they think, to be honest. It's kind of baffling to me how anyone could go through the conversion process--the classes, the praying, the masses, the mentorship, the sacraments, etc, etc--without seeming to have learned anything about your place in the system

Maybe the first part isn't totally fair. A lot of the mean ones before didn't have a lot of choices and took it out on other people.

These guys picked something that they don't understand.

Second part I believe though

I think that they are like a lot of the mean ones who have always been around, but usually have known better than to be loud about it.

They mostly want to smack kids with rulers and make people feel bad
November 27, 2025 at 1:47 AM
Maybe. But they seem to think that they are the peers of bishops, for example, but obviously that's not the case in terms of religious authority

They don't even ever reference saints or church fathers, or anything that would give their opinions the slightest weight
November 27, 2025 at 1:44 AM
They seem to think that hierarchy includes them because they are in positions of secular authority, but it is a total misunderstanding of their status

Are they reopening it to cars? That's a bummer

I've avoided following, but have a couple of news/reporter/politics feeds and still feel like certain things just don't surface for me in the same way.

I still get the Sunday paper but it's gone downhill too

Turkey is such a strong flavor. It can take a few extra herbs

tacchino all'italiana

That's ok. Scottish Presbyterian name calling is enough for me

Who exactly is the audience for transcribed and translated documents?

Accessible to anyone but of interest to no one

Whenever I hear that computers can now do something so we don't need languages or paleography or any of the basic humanities skills, I wonder who it is for

We find a way to the beautiful old things ✨
November 26, 2025 at 4:56 AM
So true. And a lot of times, the role that will make sense given your experience and background isn't going to be the thing that you already know about
November 26, 2025 at 4:54 AM
I'm trying to be more involved in various book parts of the department but it's tricky. And it doesn't help that cataloging is a staff job at my library
November 26, 2025 at 4:52 AM
As I went into spec coll, I realized how good a fit it would be for so many of my interests. The 'projects' that devise for myself are all on the books side, but my role is really public services. We generally have so much more interest and reference on the archives side
November 26, 2025 at 4:50 AM
We all want to be rare books catalogers but...it's not always in the cards 😢

In library school I thought that I would be a reference librarian for humanities disciplines but most of those jobs aren't really what I thought they were
November 26, 2025 at 4:32 AM
Ok that is a bit funny
November 26, 2025 at 4:26 AM
I'd agree with this. And add that pulling on other work experience even if it is not your end goal. I didn't particularly want to be an instructional librarian but my teaching experience is what got me hired.

They changed the wording in Catholic masses in 2011 to a more literal translation of the Latin response. I have never heard of the Kirk thing
November 26, 2025 at 4:11 AM
What do you mean?
