There's a saying that I often use which is fish don't know the water they swim in.

Most people can't see colonisation here. They're happy swimming in that water. They can't consider that there maybe another water, or that this water is harming those it is not good for.

While we know what this government is like, don't forget the biggest land grab ever on our history was by Helen Clark in 2004.

Just 21 years ago the government, knowing everything they know, knowing disparity, knowing the intergenerational effects of actions made this decision.

Let that sit.

Every day we live with a refusal to address this in any meaningful way from the government, national or labour.

There is no sharing of power. There is no real acknowledgement of the effects.

There is no concerted effort to remedy.

Look around Aotearoa. The overrepresentation of Māori in poverty and prison can be directly traced back to land confiscation, as well as policy to prevent Māori engaging in higher education for 50 years

A direct result of the conscious decisions of the crown.

I work across Māori communities, some have the privilege of living on their own whenua. I see the effects there.

I see it in my cousins, in my partner and in his cousins.

For me I can point to a single crown decision in 1868 and track the direct effect of that decision.

Overseas vehicle to grid is a thing. So when vehicles are plugged in there is a huge array of power stored at batteries that can be used at peak and returned at lower usage. All evs in nz are capable. We just don't do it

Mmhmmm it was funny and terrifying all at the same time.

She had been changing the radio station in her car. Looked up and was veering onto oncoming traffic. Pulled the wheel, overcorrected and straight through a brick pillar and the hairdressers window

Yeah. Total WTF. Luckily I was the last client so the salon was pretty empty.
August 19, 2025 at 9:20 PM
The driver got out of the Ute, now parked in the middle of the salon surrounded by chaos and calmly said "can I use your phone?"

We watched as she called her husband and said she'd had a bit of an accident.

A piece of the aluminum window frame pierced the wall, along side my hairdresser's neck. Luckily not through it.

Bricks from a pillar covered the hair dressing station we'd just moved from..

This happened to me in hairdressers in 1999.

I was at the sinks having my hair washed.

When the car came through, time slowed down and I saw every individual shard of glass coming at us.
