Fun fact! We could be using the $75 billion allocated for ICE on literally anything else! Like essential services that help people exist! It’s almost as if these issues + our priorities have a lot of overlap!

Also people definitely can’t afford things if they get shot in the face!

Some rare, decent news in this fight. As many of the comments on this post point out, they should also take a stand against AI-generated visual art, including album covers.

Hey y’all: if you use Libby and you hate them allowing generative AI content and incorporating it in other ways you can go to your profile, scroll down to “help and support”, and take a survey to tell them that you hate it

I saw this story last year and it was on my mind when I recently decided to reinvest in physical media. Now it’s back in the news and I’m feeling pretty pleased with my new blu ray/4k player. Trying to walk away from “life as a (subscription) service” wherever I can. gizmodo.com/wtf-is-this-...
WTF Is This Version of 'It's A Wonderful Life'?
We still can't get over that an oddly abridged version of the film actually exists.

Going back to physical media to save $ on streaming & step out of the algorithm. I can pause frames & watch credits easily. PLUS, SPECIAL FEATURES!

I’ll invest in some UHD & blu ray (hello @criterion.bsky.social) and utilize my local library, but for now I’m rescuing DVDs from the garage; so fun!

Logos should not include detailed illustrations. Most major brands that started with elaborate logos have simplified them over time. I mean, who cares, but that was a bad logo. I would have done a bit more to the shape to reference the concept of a barrel.

I mean, it would be better to win that battle right now and have the rainbow crosswalk restored immediately. But this regime is destroying so much, so quickly it would be great to have an augmented reality app that could help us remember and track it all, and to see everything in place, how it was.

The augmented reality app I’m imagining could also display other destroyed elements of public space, such as the rainbow crosswalk Pulse memorial. A tool for collective memory and for re-envisioning the future. www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-...
Pulse Memorial's rainbow crosswalk removed overnight in Orlando, Florida
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer called the removal a “cruel political act.”

Someone please make an augmented reality app that allows visitors to Smithsonian and other sites to see virtual versions of exhibits and placards removed by the regime. It could also provide images of empty spaces where Confederate monuments are.

The Moral Imperative Of Clear Language
I need to say something that will make many of you deeply uncomfortable: your refusal to call fascism “fascism” is not sophistication—it’s complicity. When Donald Trump posts explicit orders for “REMIGRATION” and “Mass Deportation Operations” targeting American cities because they are “the core of the Democrat Power Center,” that’s not “controversial immigration policy.” That’s mass deportation directed against political opponents.

Reliving my disappointment because a last-minute schedule change at LTL 2024 had Kneecap and Bob Vylan playing at the same time.

The national failure to stand up for students protesting the genocide in Gaza has eroded students’ rights to protest at all. These NCCU students were exposing conditions—including black mold—in their own dorms, and they are still being called outside agitators & subjected to beating and arrest.
Students & faculty in North Carolina getting arrested for protesting their abhorrent living conditions. So much for free speech and the right to assemble.

Blue Origin feels like the European Commission’s disastrous “Science: It’s A Girl Thing” video come to life.
(To be fair, that program went on to produce some great content after being roasted for this.)

If a low U.S. birth rate (as in pop. growth) was an actual problem, increasing legal paths to immigration and supporting immigrants would be a logical solution. But of course that’s not what he’s worried about. Make him say “white babies” whenever he spreads this shit.
Baier: What's the biggest thing that keeps you up at night?

Musk: The birth rate is very low in almost every country. And unless that changes, civilization will disappear. America had the lowest birth rate

Adolescence is a powerful story, creatively told, with stellar performances. Still, I was surprised by how devastated & heartsick I felt. Then I realized—those feelings were just me returning to my new real-life baseline. Not exactly “escapist” but the show’s artistry distracted me from the news.

Also if Reagan is rolling in his grave it’s only because of jealousy. Every shit thing that’s happening now has roots in, or indeed was set in motion by, the Reagan administration. If we had an actual opposition party I’d assume that the person providing their rebuttal would get that.
