So let's say you're building a deck that had a theme. There's a very good chance your theme was supported in some set at some point in history. Find out which set it is. Pore over the card file.

Was that set in the Block Era? Pore over the block.

Then look at that entire Standard environment.

I spent my formative time in magic going set by set and learning what the rares were and little bits about the set, but Ive been so scryfall pilled for so long, I forgot the ancient texts, this is great advice
