Holiday season remember!

Don't ask strangers questions about their family if you're not prepared to be cool when they cry because they're in mourning, get anxious because they're estranged, or generally find the question invasive and uncomfortable.

If they brush the question off, let them.

The last leaves of autumn glow even brighter to a hungry pair of Therizinosaurus, bulking up for a long winter. These strange dinosaurs are some of my favorites, and though they're slow movers, they made it just in time to be included in my new calendar!

HAPPY WHALE DAY!!!
opb.org OPB @opb.org · 22d
On this day 55 years ago, blubber went boom at the Oregon Coast.

That's when officials made the legendary decision to blow up a dead whale.

Here's a look back at the explosive piece of Oregon lore with a 2020 story by OPB's Tiffany Camhi written ahead of the whale of a tale's 50th anniversary.
‘It was like a blubber snowstorm’: Why Oregon blew up a whale in 1970
The exploding whale is a piece of Oregon lore that just won’t go away. It’s one of those real-life stories that just sounds too strange to be real.

Knowing that holiday related art projects take time, I will point out that the phainopepla (aka goth cardinal (despite being a silky flycatcher and not a cardinal at all)) mainly feeds on mistletoe berries. Making it thematically appropriate for a certain upcoming holiday season.🪶

Current mess that I'm working on....along with 4 other things.
This was a crossstitch kit I bought AGES ago at, possibly fabric depot (which is sadly dead). It's on 18 count fabric too, and I'm used to working on 14.

IDK what I'll do for November. Maybe play catch up on the Hawaiian bird cross stitch project.
Also maybe put a dent in the tea stash that occasional gets bigger because 'oo that combination sounds good when added into hot water'.

#Birdtober day 30 is Long Thin Wings!
Another headteacher kinda, since I didn't want to duplicate too many birds! Some may be broader than others.

#Birdtober day 29 is unique foraging technique.
American dippers are aquatic songbirds, so they're hanging out in high flowing streams with lots of exposed rocks. They'll snatch up aquatic insects form the rocks, it's a lot of fun to watch these busy little birds.

One way to get yourself to take a break from embroidery is to stab yourself REALLY good with a needle because a spider crawled across your desk....Super bad luck as I was coming UP the fabric and not doing something else.

#Birdtober day 28 is Icterid, the blackbird family. For being called the blackbird family there are way more than just blackbirds.

#Birdtober Day 27 is colony nester! There are advantages and disadvantages to nesting in a group. Could have more eyes for predators, but predators can also see your giant grouping.
