The 86th call says Canadian journalism programs should require all students to learn about the history of Indigenous peoples, including the history and legacy of residential schools, UNDRIP, Treaties and Indigenous rights, Indigenous law, and Indigenous-Crown relations.

Despite that, only 7 out of 10 newsrooms have Indigenous or visible minority people in the top three leadership positions, according to the 2024 CAJ Diversity Survey. Only 2.4% of Indigenous people reported being in supervisor roles. bit.ly/4mIuIeq

The 84th call to action urges the media to increase equitable access for Indigenous peoples to jobs, leadership positions, and professional development opportunities within CBC/Radio-Canada (though this could and should be extended to all media organizations).
