My X feed. "Autism is genetic" says the human geneticist. "Depression is an energetic state" says the mitochondrial physiologist. Can we please stop with this simplification of complex disorders? It's epistemic arrogance, and simply advocating for one's own field of work. And language matters.

Agreed. And... 1) it's always the same people leading and getting loads of money 2) we need to stop assuming only senior people can lead big teams.

I know you all know this, but apparently it needs to be said that basic science is a NECESSARY PRECURSOR to translational science
NSF to ONLY fund research in five areas: artificial intelligence, quantum information science, biotechnology, nuclear energy, and translational science. Can this be happening?

A lot of folks are going to express strong support for Indigenous leaders in Alberta who are pushing back hard on talk of separation. This can't just be because it's politically useful. Let's also address the issues with treaties and talk seriously about #LandBack.

Obviously I support calls to "Stand With Science", but I can't help noting that scientists as a group almost never stand with anyone else. It's always "science can't be political" or "we must remain neutral". It's deafening silence from academics except when funding is at risk.

Very happy to team up with Dr. Lawrence Goodridge on this Perspective piece advocating for Indigenous privacy rights and genomic data governance in wastewater-based surveillance. Absolute pleasure to work with Dr. Julio Licinio, EIC of Genome Psychiatry.
🚰🧬Wastewater surveillance captures human DNA—raising privacy risks for Indigenous communities. Can we balance public health and genomic rights? Need for strong safeguards. Read in Genomic Psychiatry: doi.org/10.61373/gp0...

Men’s monopoly on global health leadership is at odds with the scientific evidence, writes @jocalynclark.bsky.social.

And with the current backlash against rights and equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts, it’s even more important to advocate for gender equality

Excellent and engaging way to distract from work for 5 minutes. For what it's worth, I wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion.
OK people, given that it appears we are still arguing about whether Die Hard is indeed a Christmas movie, I am going to do a thread on Christmas movies to detail why this should no longer be up for debate.

A PI called my grad student a bitch at the ACNP reception. Because a couple years ago she challenged him about his data at his poster. He is very lucky I missed the reception. She did not want to report him, or me to say anything, for fear of reprisal so early in her career. But I will remember.
