Happy 71st to Pat Metheny, born in Lee's Ferry, Missouri. Berklee College of Music hired Metheny on the faculty when he was 19. Metheny's catalogue is rich and varied, but I'm particularly fond of his duet album with Charlie Haden, "Beneath the Missouri Sky." Check it out.

The old double-knit, belt-less uniform! Very ‘70s. Judging by the body language here Dewey is out. What an outfield that was: Rice-Lynn-Evans. And that is definitely Munson, who once had a mild disagreement with Carlton Fisk at home plate.

Robert Moog (pronounced “Mogue”) was born in NYC on May 23, 1934. I only know of two books about Moog, and my pick is “Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer,” by Trevor Pinch and Frank Trocco (2004, Harvard University Press). Some cool photos, too.

NYC was the center of a graphic design renaissance in the ‘50s and ‘60s and ‘70s, and this is proof. The sound quality is definitely pre-contemporary, alas. The album was reissued three decades later with this cover.

Been listening to the sort of forgotten Monk album from 1959. Where have you gone, Riverside Records?

Bruce Bochy’s hat size is 8 1/8 and the Rangers manager has, according to Baseball Reference, “one of the largest heads in major league history.”

I’m rooting for him.
