Lawyer. Equal opportunity critic. In awe of my grandchildren.
After 38 years of legal practice, I can assure you that if you have a legal opinion, that’s contrary to mine, I’ve already gotten it direct from your lawyer, or you’ve given me their name so we can discuss it.

It has to be. And is it this basis for Halligan to be disbarred? This isn’t subtle. It’s either outrageous incompetence, or fraud by an officer of the court.
NEWS: During a hearing in federal court in VA, prosecutors confirmed that the operative indictment in the case against James Comey was never shown to or voted on by the entire grand jury before it was presented in open court.

Defense counsel argued that’s a complete bar to further prosecution

The super upper class extremely wealthy scream whenever anyone says anything that sounds like class war. Ironic, since they long ago abandoned any pretence of being interested in anyone other than themselves, and are up to their elbows in an undeclared class war they started.

Alex Boutilier at Global. Of course he won’t change, he hasn’t changed from the childish toxic little shit was when he first showed up in the House of Commons. He didn’t change when Harper put him in cabinet. He didn’t change and list an election. He won’t change and will lose the next one.

I agree. As far as the disenfranchised comment goes maybe nobody agrees with what the poster wants. It’s a democracy. They have no right to the government they want. And if they’re unhappy get engaged
And do something about it.
I feel completely the opposite. There is a lot more than the energy sector here. A broad range of industries are targeted for support and development to the benefit of individual Canadians.
I don't like the budget (I feel it's largely a #BigOil wish list) and I don't want an election (I feel there's literally NOBODY to vote for).

I am a Canadian citizen and lifelong voter. I feel disenfranchised. I feel like my political system is utterly failing me.

Yep because Ontario is more important than and different from the rest of the country. Let’s be clear. Bar exams are a joke.

More posturing by David Eby who is gripping a slim majority with white knuckles.

When I worked at City Hall in the 1970s, the ships bell for HMCS Saskatoon (K158) was on display at the mayors office. When MM709 was commissioned under that name, the bell was returned to the Navy for use on that ship. As that classis paid off, it would be nice to see it returned to City Hall.

The depths of denialism in the US right now are catastrophically hilarious. A few weeks ago: “no it’s not his signature”. Today, “a 15 year old is barely legal”. They’ve all become caricatures of themselves.

I’m waiting for the announcement from the Canadian Minister of Defence that she authorized a special forces operation which extracted the President of the US to an unknown location to secure OUR homeland from the fascist threat in OUR neighborhood.

The seven deadly sins:

1. Vainglory;
2. Greed;
3. Lust;
4. Envy;
5. Gluttony;
6. Wrath; and
7. Sloth.

I’m thinking right now about somebody who might simultaneously be the foremost example of each. Can you read my mind?

It’s fundamental to the Westminster system of government. It allows the people to influence outcomes between elections. And a warning: a house voted in by PR would kill this flexibility. In other words it’s a feature, not a bug.

Over half of the US population is looking for someone to fight for them. Instead, they got the Democratic appeasers in the Senate. If you’re not prepared to fight for them, they’re not going to come to the ballot box. Are you really that stupid?

I give up. I don’t want to hear any more whining about Trump, handwringing, pearl clutching, or outrage. It’s not just the GOP that’s spineless and won’t stand up to him. It’s not just the Supreme Court. It’s the damn Democratic Party too. Welcome to your authoritarian world.

Spent time today watching Remembrance Sunday ceremony with the King. And thinking ahead to tomorrow’s ceremony here at home. And I recall my oath to my sovereign as an army cadet and again on being called to the bar. My father’s generation offered their lives in Defence of this great country . . .
