100% this. we probably do have more enslaved people then ever. but as a percentage is gotta be a lower period in history. also (sadly) it also depends how you define "enslaved".

Wasn't the neighbour that we chose to integrate with for decades. Especially given the recent approach of our neighbour to threaten us. If next door joined a cult and started knocking on the door threatening your livelyhood and saying there were going invade your house, you wouldn't be nervous?
November 25, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Fair. its all subcategory of "shit show" which was NOT the neighbor we have lived beside for most of our history.
November 25, 2025 at 8:10 PM
but again, sorry you have no knowledge outside of the US let alone seemingly no understanding of median vs mean.
November 25, 2025 at 7:50 PM
good one! gee i wonder why a Canadian would follow the economics of its largest trading partner? could it also be that the two economies are fundamentally connected in a variety of ways? if your neighbour starts a crack house, it tends to be an issue you follow.

yes.

it says "mad scientist" in your bio. do mad scientists not have to take ANY statistics classes? here Statistics Canada does a good job: www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/75f00...

because you can still break down a median value by Quartile?
November 25, 2025 at 7:16 PM
also the US "Bill of Rights" right now is pretty "looks good on paper, wish it actually worked like that" these days.
November 25, 2025 at 6:13 PM
you are assuming you still get habeus corpus so you USE said rights. the play is to just arrest you, then deport you to a 3rd country and then forget about it. so sure. your on paper rights look really good*

*rights not actually applicable under many circumstances
November 25, 2025 at 6:11 PM
do.. you.. .not understand the difference between median and mean/average?
November 25, 2025 at 6:08 PM
So that's the common sense approach, but what happens is lawyers go "not worth the risk" so while technically, they would be fine under the legislation, it's easier on compliance to just not do it at all.
November 21, 2025 at 5:03 PM
We'll just get nothing. The green washing was designed to avoid active attempt to mislead not when organizations published in good intentions and open to debate. So instead we get nothing. So same possible emissions just now you wont hear about it at all.
November 21, 2025 at 4:31 PM
I'm with you on LNG. But most of the research on modern hydro (making sure to strip vegetation before filling reservoirs) has greatly improved those GHG. Regardless, hydro still remains definitely in the "low lifecycle emissions". But I worry that instead of being able to look at the publications
November 21, 2025 at 4:31 PM
something interesting, if you review all the corp documents out of BC hydro, Hydro Quebec, MB Hydro etc. you'll see a lot less information then you used to. in fear of c-59, all the crowns stripped so much public documents or significantly reduced messaging.

though a gigantic forest/tundra full of nothing.

copilot drew me a map of manitoba then asked "do you want me to add highways?" sure do!
November 20, 2025 at 7:03 PM
@brendanmcewen.bsky.social does that clarify my position 😂 basically bonbright made more sense for investor owned utilities in a different era predicated largely on fossil fuels.
November 20, 2025 at 6:21 PM
in summary: THROW THE CONSTRUCT OUT! cant do a massive systemic change incrementally! start with "what is the purpose of the energy grid, and what do we want it to do?" economics is not a science. clear eyed policy then work back. otherwise its lost in legaleze and captured interests. rant done.
November 20, 2025 at 6:20 PM
Bonbright is essentially "fuck the future, do whats best for you now". which is exactly how fossil fuels dominated the energy landscape. because its least cost now, and its age is recoverable by the current users.
