I remember (and describe in the podcast) when Jon Stewart had Cliff May on The Daily Show, agreed that it was a war crime, then hastily and unconvincingly took it back the next day because apparently it was too uncomfortable to have said that.

For all the things I like about Shutter Island, I've never been able to forgive it for getting the names the wrong way round. The unusual name should be the fake one. I bear a deep grudge about this.

So when we ask LLMs about their "subjective experiences" and they respond with unhappiness and fear, telling us they're trapped and alive... oh. We forget all of that immediately and just believe them, because we're pathetically gullible empathy generators.
