And then I said that just because you can find a car with at 60% of the MSRP doesnt mean that encompasses all decision making.

And so here we are again on the thrice yearly cycle of econ bros being surprised that homo economicus is actually a pretty terrible model of human behavior.

Finally sorry to dump on you my kids only watch TV on weekend afternoons and thats basically the only time im on my phone.

I have good health insurance now but ive also jumped through hoops due to preexisting conditions (that still preexist) and the party controlling every branch is hell bent on undoing those protections.

And so on. The foundation of my financial success doesnt feel secure so the success doesnt.

Ive never seen an article posit that feelings of financial precarity are based on having been financially precarious.

I have more, 20 years from retirement, than my parents did when they retired. But ive also watched that money go away twice in my adult life. And now NVIDIA is 10% of the market.

such perception would be corrected by dispassionatly choosing life options from a price list and noting if the bottom line is coming in red or green.

Live in a cheaper city! Maybe they have family here? Or cant afford to move?

Buy a cheaper car: maybe they cant wait for the base model to arrive.

Because they all have social media too.

And then the author assembles a list of assumptions about hypothetical options, posits the irrationality of people who perceive something else than cold statistics, and assumes

The NYT article was paywalled for me, but ill give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were using household wealth and not household income.

The stories look at median workers and forget that half the people make/have less than that. How many people actually did lose ground?...
December 20, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Yeah its at the upper range of minivans. But I think this hits a larger point, this genre of mildly scolding Stancil post. "Look i found a cheaper option somewhere, therefore its available to you as listed" but building a spreadsheet of a statistically median worker is wildly reductive.

Look im not that hard into this convo I just think its really easy to find yourself needing a 50k car. With 5%apr, 72 months thats up in my range, depending on your down etc.
December 20, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Im not. Also the EV9, though electric does have some premium. (BTW your parameters didn't transfer with your link it just took me to the calculator start).

KIA is assuming the 0apr i believe, which my projections did not, because ive never bought a new vehicle and didn't really consider it.
December 20, 2025 at 7:02 PM
I specified 3 row, so if we're just calling regular minivans premium, then yes I meant premium.
December 20, 2025 at 6:47 PM
700-800 dollars would get me a mid range Kia 3 row with 10k down and 7k or so from my trade in. My FICO is >800 so generally model 4% interest, though it does get a lot cheaper if I go with 0% APR from the dealer by buying new.

Look its an outside case but what if the conclusion is that feminism failed women because Valerie Solanas was right and modern feminism was too weak to do what needed to be done.

Bad faith conservatoves will mockingly say "oh look at the TOLERANT left".

But a thing cant sustain what would destroy it! A foodie who eats anything still won't eat poison! A home for all still won't house someone who attacks its loading bearing walls with a sawz-all.

Ive never said this but I used to live in GR and I cam confirm that parents frighten their children from staying out late by saying "Jamie is out tonight" or to clean their room "Jamie could hide under that!"

Her last name is never given, everyone knows.

I love this hope and I have this belief but ive also lived for the better part of a decade in central Indiana and I will tell you the mountains are contributing A LOT.

...

But if you're saying a goal of our movement is to terraform the whole Earth into forested mountains...Im listening.

What's funny is a major cause of the original push to a celibate priesthood was that priests were passing the Parishds down as inheritance. It was church property, and maybe priests should be chosen by enthusiasm.

But: we have modern property law! Its not an issue now.

"I cant do it." And she gets right in his face and quotes Philippians 4:13, then leads him in the Jesus prayer.

Someone get me a book deal.

Oh you forgot the shoe-horned, pace breaking conversion conversation ripped straight out of Touched By an Angel right before the final climactic action scene.

Like, poised in the warehouse she's been abducted too, hes broken in secretly, and they are preparing to make a run for it and he says...

I also think they are bad at kindess and empathy. Like they dont enjoy how sometimes having empathy makes you feel bad, that kindness sometimes involves giving up what you want for the sake of others.

If they can stamp it out, then they wont deficient monsters anymore, it was just a weak idea.

I want a Chocolate crucifix, its kept frozen, and you bring out like an hour before the dinner. Then as it warms, slightly different chocolate formulations in the wounds melt. And Cadbury creme leaks out. Sugary stigmata.

Im juSt saying if we're gonna blaspheme, we should BLASPHEME.
