I've just acquired a copy of Meredith's 'A Reading of Life' that carries Edward Thomas's handwritten inscription for the Edward Thomas Study Centre at Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery.
I learned this morning that the novelist and poet George Meredith (1828-1909) confused his biographers for years by describing his birthplace as "Near Petersfield"

In fact he was born 20 miles away in Portsmouth.
