OK, after looking up the comic book, and confirming they really are adapting it, the throwaway bad guy who steals Supergirl's ship is named in the cast list, is not Lobo, and will be played by Matthias Schoenaerts.
Could be the Main Man just does an introductory fly-by.

They'd need to devote at least as much time to explaining Lobo as establishing Supergirl as someone to root for.
So they'd basically have to go full Keith Giffen bwah-ha-ha, and good luck explaining that to most people writing about movies.

I mean, it won't be the first time Lobo fought one of the heroes for whatever reason. He's anti-hero, and well, we've already established that Supergirl is a bit of a super-brat.

I don't think the new The Running Man is as strong as every Edgar Wright movie ever made, but this is a director that's not afraid to feint and have you thinking he's doing something stupid if it means you're surprised by what happens next. It does mean that this movie takes a while to get good.

You might be right, but I also think the movie as well as the original Richard Bachman novel is structured as a picaresque series of vignettes about Ben Richards running around and encountering different people and situations. The original Arnold movie wasn't about that at all.
