Dukore, The Shaw Review, v. 14, no. 3 (Sept. 1971, p. 103: "From the start, the movie version moved in the direction of Beerbohm Tree's interpretation of the end. As Donald P. Costello indicates, "Shaw was suspicious of [Leslie] Howard's screen image as a romantic idol. 'The public will like him and probably want him to marry Eliza,' said Shaw, 'which is just what I don't want.' Shaw wanted, instead, a determined antiromantic in the role. . . ." The playwright's particular choice was Charles Laughton. But Shaw lost. Howard played Higgins and, with Anthony Asquith, codirected the film. Octogenarian Shaw visited Pinewood Studios to celebrate the start of the filming, but part from that visit he was not present at the making of Pygmalion. As Beerbohm Tree did when Shaw left town, the film's directorial duo, Asquith and Howard, with either the assistance or abetting silence of the producer (Gabriel Pascal, to whom Shaw entrusted his work), seized the opportunity to sentimentalize the ending. Theoretically, Shaw had the right to approve the final shooting scrip, but Costello's assertion to the contrary notwithstanding, I have seen no evidence that he actually did." On the one hand, I am in air conditioning and able to geek out with friends and colleagues about professional passions and bugbears, but on the other hand, I am stuck inside during Portland’s Pride & I have fabulous earrings.

Finding my way towards making stuff to find my joy between all the rage bait inundating us all. I rarely make things from scratch and I love me some beginners kits. That said, voila! I sewed a Frida Kahlo doll.
