track 17: the lakes - did you guys know i had to translate this song for my literary translation course? the wordsworth joke single-handedly ruined my score - "what should be over burrowed under my skin in heart-stopping waves of hurt" oh... - "i want auroras and sad prose, i want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet" me too - "while i bathe in cliff side pools with my calamitous love and insurmountable grief" this is me core - there's also an orchestral version of this (the original) - the strings on this are SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!

track 16: HOAX - the piano is BEAUTIFUL and the harmonies on the chorus are HEAVENLY and then the strings coming in at the very end? outstanding - the lyrics are actually poetry - "stood on the cliff side screaming, 'give me a reason'" oh wow - the bridge is so raw and painful oh god

track 15: PEACE - i'd say this is the most experimental folklore track, with that weird ass note on a loop as a beat. the guitar part is beautiful tho. - "our coming-of-age has come and gone / suddenly, this summer, it's clear" makes me want to throw up btw - all the lyrics make me want to die actually. - "all these people think love's for show, but i would die for you in secret" - "would it be enough if i could never give you peace?"

track 14: BETTY - the last song of the folklore love triangle. the man's pov song, is anyone surprised this is the weakest? - instrumentals are great tho, that fuck ass harmonica is so unique to this song - taylor does a great job at writing at 16 year old boy's idea of an apology. bestest character work honestly. - "when you are young they assume you know nothing" in cardigan vs. "i'm only 17, i don't know anything" - i would personally murder james whether i was betty or augustine because of the "i slept next to her but dreamt of you all summer long" yea those are your last words buddy - the fandom took the inez mention and RAN with it - rhyming "cardigan" and "car again" wow

track 11: INVISIBLE STRING - the only actual love song in this album. i mean it. also the only happy song. also (supposedly) the only biographical one. - la canción del hipérbaton. está en todos lados. - pretty, romantic, paints a picture. - "time, mystical time, cutting me open then healing me fine" / "time, wondrous time, gave the blues and then purple-pink skies" - "hell was the journey but it brought me heaven" - "chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons, one single thread of gold tied me to you."

track 8: AUGUST - second song of the folklore love triangle, and the anthem of the hopeless romantics who are chronically nostalgic (it's me) - absolutely dreamy, beautiful, ethereal. - the double meanings (never mine, never mind; behind the mall, behind them all) - in cardigan betty never repeats a memory, because she has had james for a long time. augustine constantly repeats the same memories over and over because he was never hers. it was only a month and it slipped away like a bottle of wine. - the violins in the crescendo at the end? devastating - "your back beneath the sun, wishing i could write my name on it" devastating situationship core - "you were never mine, nevermind" - "BACK WHEN WE WERE STILL CHANGING FOR THE BETTER / WANTING WAS ENOUGH / FOR ME IT WAS ENOUGH / TO LIVE FOR THE HOPE IT ALL / CANCEL PLANS JUST IN CASE YOU'D CALL AND SAY MEET ME BEHIND THE MALL/ SO MUCH FOR SUMMER LOVE AND SAYING "US" CAUSE YOU. track 6: MIRRORBALL - yo soy esa - made it my whole personality because the first time i listened to it my jaw went slack from how hard it hit - born performer but without talent core - have indeed used it to explain myself to people important to me - idk if u remember but my bio used to be "the mirrorballest mirrorball girlie to ever ever mirrorball". yep. - os alegrará saber que ya no mirrorboleo - absolutely dreamy. everything about it is beautiful and shiny (like a mirrorball) but there's the dark side with the lyrics.
