Fan of energy systems and clean energy. "Big infrastructure" leftist. They/them.
Not off the top of my head although I've seen literature on it. I'm basing it on my experiences vs those of friends and relatives in other parts of the US.

You're not wrong but being in an area with multiple teaching hospitals has a positive effect on healthcare quality.
November 24, 2025 at 6:05 PM
There absolutely are differences in health care quality as well, at least in the US.

I don't know how much of a role this plays in Americans' perception of our prosperity and quality of life but one of the reasons I worry is that even before Trump the US seemed hell-bent on destroying many of the foundations of its prosperity.

Sorry, are you saying that in both Europe and the US, the difference in life expectancy between regions or states isn't high?
November 24, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Also notable: life expectancy in the US has begun decreasing, while life expectancy in Europe seems to still be going up in general.

Oof, those are about 5 years longer than Massachusetts.

There are some interesting connections between those issues and social net issues, but yeah. I'm most familiar with connections between cars and social net issues, but our gun problem also has connections.
November 24, 2025 at 4:44 PM
They're among our leading causes of death, injuries, and illness so I wouldn't count on that. To clarify, are you suggesting substituting the European numbers for traffic and gun fatalities and injuries into calculations for various well being indices to test how much of an effect these have?

Methane emissions reduction is appealing because it has an effect on warming much faster than CO2 emissions reduction. Some big issues are that some of the ideas to reduce CH4 emissions are less technically feasible than hoped and methane emission hasn't gone down as much as is claimed.

Thank you. Mercifully he hasn't won any elections but it's still disturbing to see so many of his campaign signs around town. This is actually mild rhetoric for him.

He's our very own local Trump-a-like.

It apparently is, it's something that pellet grills already do and have done for decades. They're selling the combination of standard pellet grill features with a horrible sounding recipe "generator" as something new and exciting to people who don't know anything about what else is out there.

I would hate using a chatbot as a search interface but a lot of people seem to find that kind of thing not only disproportionately impressive but enjoyable to use, at least in the short term. (3/3)

of recipes with substitution options (yk, like most recipes) and it's just displaying a recipe with only the substitutions you asked for (and then using that to set cook times and temperatures and send you notifications when the recipe calls for you to do something). (2/n)

Most pellet grills have those built in. Being able to remotely control a pellet grill is ~standard, they've been using PID temperature controllers for decades now. The "AI" part of this is a chatbot that "generates" recipes for you. I suspect that it's a chatbot interface to a database (1/n)

Correction: this is designed by people who have had ample opportunity to understand what being trans is like but reject all information available to them in favor of the ideas they like. This isn't ignorance.
November 24, 2025 at 1:51 PM
Computerized pellet grills are nothing new, is this just that with a buzzword or does it incorporate anything that's usually considered generative AI? Either seems annoying but in different ways.

For example, someone who's intersex might respond to HRT differently. That's possible but is generally only something you figure out once you're on HRT, it doesn't correspond meaningfully with anything observable on a nude full body exam.
November 24, 2025 at 12:34 PM
There are other reasons that are less overtly offensive, but similarly bullshit.
November 24, 2025 at 12:30 PM
You'd think so, right? Some doctors disagree. It's relatively common for doctors to think that someone who's intersex who says they're trans actually needs more affirmation of their assigned sex. This includes doctors who are otherwise totally fine with trans people!
November 24, 2025 at 12:27 PM
Yes. Some examples just off the top of my head are Babywise (a book, with associated content and I think community) and groups for parents who are unhappy their children are trans.
