And about pests... There is no sweet potato beetle, but there are weevils that devour them in planta and also stored! 🍠🪲

Sweet potato young shoots are widely used as relish in most of East Africa. Older ones are used as feed, either fresh or stored as silage. Actually in many places the shoots are "harvested" a few days before the tuber to "cure" them for better storage.

🥔&🍠 Potatoes and sweet potatoes! Tubers pack the best land, water, nutrient, radiation... use efficiency of all crops. Once harvested they are quite easy to store for long and one of the most nutrient and calorie dense vegetables.
