"Captain Verity, him and Major Lambert, they don't take your filming seriously..."

John Mortimer was 23 when Charade was published, Verity Lambert still at school. Did they meet? Unlikely. It appears to be a striking coincidence... 3/3

I even have a copy of a Rumpole novel inscribed by JM to VL 'with love and memories of Rumpole'.

In Mortimer's first novel, Charade, published in 1947, there are two soldier characters, Captain Verity and Major Lambert... They're in scenes together and mentioned together. 2/3

Weird coincidence dept. I'm in a phase of watching and reading work by John Mortimer, distinguished novelist and playwright, creator of Rumpole of the Bailey. The Rumpole series was commissioned by none other than Verity Lambert at Thames TV. 1/3

Delighted to say I'm now coming along to the DWAS Caves of Androzani event at Riverside Studios tomorrow. See you there, those of you that are coming.

I'm pleased to say a new boxed set of Fifth Doctor audio serials will be coming out in March. Two very good writers: Lizzie Hopley, who has been writing and acting for Big Finish for many years. And Tim Foley, a very gifted new writer, new to me anyway. Well worth getting this.

Look forward to seeing some of you at Gallifrey in LA this weekend. Frazer Hines and I will be representing Classic Who, and other guests include Billie Piper, Camille Coduri and the great Derek Jacobi. Should be fun!

Season 15 of classic Who on its way on Blu Ray! Even if you've watched all these on the telly you will need to get this, not least to see Katy Manning and me on the Sofa! Rarely has there been such fabulous entertainment since the days of the Marx Brothers!!

I love how many callbacks and mentions Adric has had in the last few years :)
I know the character was often polarising, but he was my point of identification as a 9 year old, newly-minted who fan back in 1981. I’m glad you’re getting props!

What a sweet and touching gesture that one of the first words uttered by the new Doctor is the name Adric!

As New Who moves on into the future, there is a great sense of excitement and freshness and renewal. The gifted Ncuti Gatwa is a thrilling choice for the Doctor.

This month's DW Mag includes a free download of the audio serial Cold Fusion, in which Adric meets the 7th Doctor. This was very enjoyable to make, it was lovely to do scenes with Sylvester. The director was Jamie Anderson, son of Gerry of Thunderbirds fame. Do give it a listen!

Thanks to @robertdick.bsky.social I am now here. It will likely mean I'm just putting the same insights in both places. At least for now.

Here we are, precisely sixty years since the first showing of the first episode of what is now known as 'classic Who'!
