Thanks Paul. It does feel increasingly like any environmental initiative developed by the last administration is being axed or throttled, regardless of its worth.

Also, so love that the Guardian is reporting this detail - besides the incredible chalk grassland heaving with orchids, the land next to the Cerne Giant also harbours rare Hazel Gloves fungus.

@milesking.bsky.social found some growing & I went to the spot the other year, here’s some pics.

I’m surprised they didn’t mention the Marsh Fritillary population as that’s one of the reasons the Hill is an SAC. But yes good that the Hazel Gloves is now recognised as a chalk scrub species!

PS yes I know my temperature stats don't include the last day as we were away. But it won't have made any difference (max 10°C).

Coldest night 1.0°C with a >-3 grass temp. Only 5 dry days with 31.8mm rain on the wettest day (22/11). 11 days had >5mm rain and 16 days with >1mm rain. Total rainfall for the year to end November is now 845mm, so not much more than 2022 at this point (822mm), but much less than 2024 (1342mm). 2/2

Where are you Kate? We’ve been away since Saturday so I am looking forward to seeing what our totals are.
