One of the best things about teaching is the opportunity to revisit works that have shaped your thinking as a historian. This one, I’m reminded, is such a compelling tour de force. I can’t wait to discuss it with my students.

Among the many reasons I love teaching at 8am: seeing these sweet babies on our campus.

Just the POTUS sharing a meme about declaring war on an American city, nothing to see here.

(I’ve honestly run out of words for how obscene and dangerous this sort of nonsense is)

Friends who study all things demonic: For the CHA this coming June at UPEI, my colleagues and I are arranging sessions that explore aspects of devil belief & their consequences in any historical period, w/ any geographical focus. Please get in touch with @devilprof.bsky.social if you have questions!

Sure, the Epstein files are undoubtedly salacious, but have you ever read a roll of fornication cases from early 18th century Fife?!

Had a wonderful time at #MagicWitchCon in York. Massive thank you to the organizers @magicnotwitches.bsky.social and @drdebsmoretti.bsky.social, and all the attendees for their brilliant papers—I learned so much. Till next year!

Very happy Friday afternoon delivery: this wonderful volume of essays in honor of Julian Goodare. So delighted to be a part of it. And best of all, it’s open access at @edinburghup.bsky.social: edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-the-sco...

Our little maniac is apparently 35% lab, 22% chihuahua (???), 14% chow, 10% beagle, and other randomness. His personality is exactly like what you would imagine with this crazy mix 😂.

I am once again asking the NYTimes to do better with its headlines. No, Republicans don’t want more “parents” to stay at home.

This is such a small thing (and I love the USPS) but having to do totally separate change of address forms for partners w/ different last names, even in the same household, seems really outdated? Mind you, this bothers me far less than mail to my house addressed to "Mr and Mrs. My Husband's name"...

Feeling especially delighted by the end of our acknowledgements, written nearly a year ago, in what seems like another lifetime. 😈

First academic read of the new year is a superb one by @sacrobosco.bsky.social—essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how historical ideas about reproductive bodies (as well as the misapprehension of these ideas) continue to inform our present, often in infuriating ways.

The southerners in our house—which is all of us, including the dog—are very excited for our first ever white Christmas! (there has been snow on the ground in Boston since Friday, but we’re getting a dusting now, so this counts, right?!) ❄️🎄

Look what came across my podcast feed this morning! The wonderful @magicnotwitches.bsky.social in conversation with @sixteenthcgirl.bsky.social about magic and cunning folk (the latter being a subject I’ve absolutely overlooked in my studies of the witch trials). Can’t wait to listen!

Had a wonderful time at #nacbs2024, catching up with dear friends, hearing fantastic papers, and enjoying the Denver sunshine. Thanks so much to everyone who attended. Final year as NACBS program chair is a wrap!

Trying to focus on the positive: I’ve got a new book out. Come for the tales of war, plague, witches & rebellion, stay for the microhistorical analysis of protestant self-fashioning during times of crisis!
