I have read an enjoyed some Noah Smith pieces over the years but the need to aggressively churn out content for social to drive engagement is kind of rough. Most people's every fleeting thought are not, in fact, polished gems of wisdom.

Anti Churchill ism is another very specific and peculiarly Russian tell.

Or the leadership cadre for authoritarian consolidation - which is why making "defect from the leader" an easier choice is a good thing.

My sense is Maduro is widely (and deservedly) disliked in the region and by many in country - this seems likely to flip that around with nothing to show for it.

Sure if he decides to hop on a plane for a long vacation Moscow then this will seem genius. But there are many futures where it is not.

I read somewhere the germans kept fiddling with their designs rather than just commiting to a basic template and focusing on process improvements to make the Panzer IV machine go "brrrrr"(versus the soviets and americans who did a version of that).

The difference in output is staggering.

I imagine him making the statement with a giant rosary, backwards baseball cap, and a white sox jersey.

As someone who went to school in Illinois the idea of Chicago Pope doing 90s style PSAs seems cringe but in a *deeply nostalgic way* - all for it.

Wasnt the firefly upgunned version perfectly competitive and respectable? Shouldnt the Panzer IV and Stug III be the real comparison, not limited run prestige pieces like the Tiger?

I have heard folks say they want Trump to be like "their FDR" in terms of dominating and wielding the executive branch. (And the four term thing)

Are you and Beutler taking a week off on the podcast? (No worries if delayed - just noticed no new episode this week)

This is pretty good snark and hope it is accurately interpreted as such (and not misconstrued as endorsement of the behavior in question)
