Also specifically re: MMWR/CDC, this was something that they wanted to do during the coronavirus pandemic because Trump officials thought the MMWR's reports on COVID were undermining Trump.

It is probably from cows/dumped milk given ~70% of state herds have been infected. I wouldn't necessarily infer it as human source, albeit serological surveys of dairy workers show undetected infections.

It is indeed an actual quote from an expert, but I thought the piece was much more nuanced than that quote
