The Eye of the Heart by various
1970s Bard paperback of Latin American short stories, including the big names like Cortazar, Borges, and a top of his game Marquez short. Also includes one of my favs, Machado de Assis, who was kind of like a precursor to Vonnegut. Good collection

The Laughing Monsters
Denis Johnson
Not my fav Johnson but still had some legendary sentence-work. "He was a tanned, white-haired white man in a fishing vest with a thousand pockets & usually, I now remembered, tan walking shoes with white shoelaces, but I couldn't tell at the moment."

Antwerp by Roberto Bolaño
Supposedly Bolaño's first book & originally considered unpublishable, feels very modern & vindicated in a post-Bolaño world. Reads like an Augustin Fernandez Mallo novella, postcard-sized scenes that collage together. Vibey & atmospheric, I read it twice

The Mysterious Disappearance of the Marquise of Loria by José Donoso
Huge fan of Donoso's the Obscene Bird of Night, so was excited to see this later work recently translated. A sort of riff on Spanish erotic fiction with a twist that makes the whole thing take on new meaning 🐶
