Knives Out 3 was good! A tad long but a fun and intriguing mystery. Satisfying ending. Worth checking out now it’s on streaming.

Just home from seeing Pillion. Excellent film and great performances. But mixed emotions about the characters. Felt sad for both of them in different ways; neither the life for me. I’m glad I have my Nige ❤️

Finished “The Naked Light” by Bridget Collins last night. Very good. An atmospheric gothic novel set in 1920s Sussex. Includes some lesbian shenanigans and supernatural goings-on. Recommended.

Just back from “Wicked: For Good”. Very good. A bit of a twist at the end (no spoilers). A few good songs but slightly long.

We had a lovely escape to Devon at the weekend with friends. Walks, talks, drink, food, and hot tub. What more do you need.

Saw ‘The Running Man’ last night. Enjoyed it. Fun, stressful, angry, towel scene (he’s looking good!).
Important comment on mega corporations having control over us and the media. All very relevant to today and unfortunately the direction we’re headed. Recommended.

Finished “The Impossible Fortune” by @richardosman1.bsky.social last night. It was good. But I didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous ones; the humour and fun wasn’t there for me. It just felt more of a plot to get through. Slightly disappointing.

Just back from seeing Plainclothes. Really good. Intense. Reminded me of my own confusion and fear at that time of my life. Thankfully I got through it and met and kept my own Russell Tovey ❤️.

A lovely family weekend up in Yorkshire at Liz and Craig’s fab new house. Fun trip on the Shipley Glen Tramway. Always good to get together.

Had a lovely week away down on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Beautiful isolated cottage in some woods in a hidden valley - hot tub always a bonus.

Great day’s walk along the coast around Lizard Point. Always good to be away and recharge.

Finished “The Ageless Brain” by @drdalebredesen.bsky.social. Great practical advice on what to do to keep your brain healthy into old age - food, activities, tests, and supplements. My mum had early-onset dementia so very relevant for me. Technical at times but accessible.

Finished “Culpability” by @bruceholsinger.bsky.social. Very enjoyable read. Well written page-turner that’s hard to put down. Thought provoking at the end. Recommended!

Last night’s entertainment was ‘Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho’ at the Bristol Old Vic. Very funny. Lots of 80s nostalgia and basically about Section 28 and an alternative ending. Got a photo with Maggie afterwards!

Saw Al Stewart at Bristol Beacon last night. Fab show. He’s still got it - friendly and engaging. His band were awesome too - sax/flute guy and guitarist especially. I still don’t know what The Year of the Cat is all about - but it sounded great 🎶

Tonight’s entertainment was ‘Starter for Ten’ at Bristol Old Vic. Fun and funny. Great cast. And Mel Giedroyc can sing! Very good!

A fab afternoon with @susiedent.com - we were all chuckling away. Fascinating tour of words and language. My favourite word of the afternoon was “amberfall” a suggested word from someone in the audience for the first smell of autumn 🍂.

Just finished Alien Earth. Excellent stuff. Not the series you think it’s going to be - it evolves into something more. Intelligent and witty. Great characters (of all types!)

It does! Very smart. They even wrapped and put the certificate on the back. Love your work!

Really pleased with our new pencil drawing “The Closet” by the talented @davidfarquhar.bsky.social. Love it! ❤️🍑
Got it back from the framer’s this morning. To go in our bedroom; a lovely sight to wake up to.

Went to see The Thursday Murder Club at the cinema. Perfect Sunday evening film. I read it a few years ago so had forgotten most of the plot! Helen Mirren plays Elizabeth how I envisaged her. The others - almost. Bittersweet at times. Definitely worth a look.

Tonight’s film was The Summer with Carmen. Lovely. A sweet film about writing the same film - all very meta. But the main beardy guy (Yorgos Tsiantoulas) was mesmerising 😍 Lots of gratuitous shots on a naked beach. Would watch again.

Saw Swedish sci-fi movie Watch the Skies tonight. A good old-fashioned sci-fi. Amateur ufologists. A little daft - but fun nonetheless.
August 17, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Saw The Fantastic Four this afternoon. Enjoyable! A fun watch. Some good bits - but disappointingly a little slow and predictable. Hard to pick my favourite of the summer’s blockbusters. None have been overly amazing.

Just back from Jurassic World Rebirth. Went in with low expectations and actually enjoyed it. Lots of peril! 🦖 All very predictable but entertaining enough. Most unbelievable thing - Johnathan Bailey’s sexy glasses never fall off! 👓

Just finished Dept Q on @netflixuk.bsky.social. Awesome stuff! A darkish investigation that builds - all the threads coming together at the end. Very engaging. Definitely one to put on your watch list. Lots of creative Scottish swearing - his next car will be a ‘Ford Fuck Off’ apparently 🤣
