I’ve been hosting the Mongabay Newscast for nearly 3 years. We’ve had some great conversations about the biggest environmental challenges of our time. Myself and @erikhoffner.bsky.social took home an award.

But we want to hear from you. How has the Newscast impacted you?

Here’s what it looks like when your kitchen or workspace gets impacted by climate inaction.

I've been told avocado toast is to blame for this.

Yes. You're correct. The problem is indeed very solvable. I've reported on the subject here: news.mongabay.com/podcast/2024...

What if I were to tell you that Adelaide is now more expensive to live in than Honolulu or San Francisco?

That's just one finding on Demographia's new housing affordability report, which doesn't have any comforting words about any major Australian city: www.newgeography.com/files/Demogr...

Really like this part too. Wish we could implement something like this in NSW. It would be a game changer:

What Kim Stanley Robinson said to me during our conversation on @mongabay.com has really stuck with me (it's lightly edited for clarity). If you want to hear the full podcast, I encourage you to give this one a listen: news.mongabay.com/podcast/2025...

Amidst the heartbreak and the devastation it’s important to lean on our communities and our friends. Here’s mine. She’s been the best friend through a lot of tragedy. I salute you, Belle. You’re the best Doggo a guy could ask for:

This was a pleasant surprise for me to wake up to this morning, but The Mongabay Newscast is listed on Apple's new 'climate' section in their podcast app. We're right there in the 'new & noteworthy' section below amazing voices like Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Hank Green.

A few photos I snapped while in the Blue Mountains on Dharug and Gundungurra Land. Australia is generally considered the only wealthy/industrialized nation that is also a deforestation hotspot.

Experts have called for reform of its env. laws, which the current gov promised and shelved.

I'm in California for the holidays just in time for this news.

Apoorva Mandavilli joined me on the @mongabay.bsky.social Newscast several weeks ago to talk about the human risk this clade of bird flu poses. Listen here: news.mongabay.com/podcast/2024...

Caught a glimpse of this little mate outside my house before it flew away. The laughing kookaburra (while common) has had 50% less sightings over the first two decades this century according to BirdLife Australia.

It is really amazing to see how many people appreciate science communicators and independent news on health, human rights and the environment.

If you value all of the above I implore you to follow Mongabay here on Bluesky at @mongabay.bsky.social. Or head over to news.mongabay.com

What about using 9 of them together in a photomontage (is that the right term?)

Like maybe this, but replace the bottom left or center image (since they are similar).

Pokolbin vineyards in Wonnarua Country. Stunningly beautiful and peaceful.

The mulch in this playground in Sydney is being tested for asbestos. The yellow tape has been up for about 3 days or more. Does the warning sign in this photo appear conspicuous enough to you?

Spider fans!

I would love your assistance. While staying in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, I found this spider on the bathroom wall. Can anyone help me identify it? It was about the size of my palm. Maybe a little larger.

I had a chance to visit Raja Ampat, in (what is now called) South west Papua. This archipelago is unlike anything I've ever seen in my life. I can't wait to share more about what I saw there, and the people I spoke with.

This guy was staring at me while I got a coffee a couple mornings ago, and I still think about it. His collar tag said “Peter.” Thanks for brightening my day little mate.

I want whatever peace of mind my dog consistently maintains.

Tasmania is pretty special. Love it here.

It is 8:30am in Sydney at it is almost 90 degrees f (30c)

This is…17 degrees c above the average daily high. Insanity.

When we are at the beach my dog gets upset that I don’t go into the water (because walking barefoot is harsh on the achilles), so she hangs out with me on the shore. Honestly makes me feel better.

This is my mini celebration face after not being able to run for 10 months. I took my first running steps on Friday. Things went well.

Rose Bay is really fun at low tide. Our dog loved splashing around on the sand bank. After living two winters back to back (both in the North/South H.) I’m glad to see an actual summer for the first time in 15 months.
