動物人間 ( Animal People) by Takuya Okada is pick for horror manga of the year. It zigs when you think it will zag, and has some truly disgusting and creepy panels. (Evil Dead & Italian horror movie fans will love it!)

Is buying a table to use as a chair on there?

Just assuming the illustrator doesn’t read sheet music, unless the secondary joke is the pilot expects the band to play the piece backwards

Had a similar obsession, but it was “The Kids’ Whole Future Catalog.” There were addresses in there to send away for free stuff, mostly info packets on the various subjects in the book.

Bought this for $1; the cover was cool and it sounded fun. (An even more sardonic “Running Man”? Yes, please!) But it was the laudatory pull quotes from Douglas Adam’s AND John Le Carré that persuaded me.

It was fine; I had higher expectations based who the quotes came from.

Read the first two books in the Heechee Saga by Frederik Pohl. Knew he was important in SFF, but only knew him from that quote about not just predicting cars but being able to predict traffic jams.
Both good, but liked Gateway more.

It’s available in English and I read the first chapter. Pretty good translation. Does a great job of capturing the protagonist’s voice.

Read ババヤガの夜 (Night of the Babayaga) a few weeks back. Pretty fun action-crime story starts straightforward but takes a few sharp turns I didn’t see. It definitely falls into the category of fuck the yakuza and doesn’t romanticize them at all.

Always exciting to a Richard Corbett cover in the wild.

The fact that “mugenonami” is misspelled and then the dialogue says, “Yes, unfortunately an accurate name” is killing me.

It’s missing an N.

Curious how this would have been worded in Japanese because “Arashikage” literally means “Storm Shadow”

The four types of cereal mascots.

1. Generous sharer
2. Selfish hoarder
3. Satisfaction denied by others
4. Please don't make me eat this garbage lest I die

As well as two dust jackets. They do some interesting graphic design on the inside with colors, but won’t post that because of spoilers.

Finished reading Exit 8 (8番出口) based on the movie that’s based on the game. Interesting to see how they added a narrative to something that doesn’t really have one. It’s a fun read. Good for Japanese practice for those interested because tons of repetition, obviously.

Almost feel like I need to do one of those “I want to report a murder” posts

Slight spoilers for Chainsawman 22

Went into this volume thinking Denji was going to be betrayed by institutions/people he trusted. Nope! Turns out the real villain is a belligerent and warmongering America. Fujimoto doesn’t pull punches

Looking forward to comparing these to the originals

New manga is always a happy day, except I know Denji is still riding that depression train so we’ll see how Chainsawman goes
