Exactly. The definition of autism has changed, removing many of the silly restrictions that Kanner put on it. Reality hasn’t changed, just the way we label it.

Wow. I read Neurotribes recently so the problematic origin of ABA is not new. I am surprised by how ABA is so integrated into the Canadian education system. I am in the central US and the school staffs knowledge of ABA is low. My child’s aides were just regular paras. It worked well.

Mandated is too strong of a word, at least in the US. The developmental psychologist that diagnosed our youngest recommended it, but they certainly didn’t compel it.
