“You know Osferth is right,” Sihtric says, watching his breath steam up before it gets snuffed by the persistent rain. “We can’t follow through with this.” Speaking the idea up sounds like blasphemy to his own ears. He has never dared think of betraying their lord, never questioned any of his movements—but this… “And what do you suggest we do?” Finan asks toneslessly. “Stay behind and stare while he massacres our friends?” A spark of fear rattles his body entire, turning to try and search for a sliver of emotion in Finan’s eyes. Which would bring him peace, Sihtric does not know. “I’ll go with him Finan, I’m—" “Bound by the same oath that binds me, aye.”

“Not here!” Bill hisses, as if they had been caught necking outside of a pub near High Street and not just touching, barely looking into each other’s eyes in the depths of the Southern Italian woods. Jock bares his palms to Bill in mock surrender, watching the lad bristle, eyes vigilant, as if he were expecting Jock to try again. “Afraid the birdies will see?” This time even Bill’s neck flushes, the air of uptight dignity he manages to imbue his countenance with every time he speaks to Jock in public shattering to pieces in a stuttering long-suffering sigh. “You are worse than a dog in heat.” The words have an immediate effect on him, his skin prickling with anticipation as his pants tighten, a short resonant growl building on the base of his throat. Jock barks, once, making Bill stare wide eyed. A shudder shakes his slender body in a way that makes Jock want to bark, bite, claim. He opts against it, running the flat of his tongue over his teeth, relishing the attention, Bill’s posture mimicking a deer’s before the hunt, unafraid of the hounds.
