Now that I’ve finally finished all 5 shows, I think this is my ranking order: TNG > Voyager > DS9 > TOS > Enterprise, though Voyager and DS9 are very close and Enterprise is a lot closer to overtaking TOS than I expected going in.

It’s a shame the show ends at Terra Prime. You can feel hints throughout of how it could have panned out for 7 seasons with the Romulans, Shran, the cold war, mirror universe, etc. that all went nowhere. Much like a lot of episodes, the show ends abruptly and a little unsatisfying.

There’s not much to be said of the other characters. I didn’t feel Reed, Hoshi, or Travis got much exploration but with the show focusing on the core trio of Archer, Trip, and T’Pol it made sense. Phlox joins a long list of great star trek doctors though, he was excellent.

They had a really difficult task ahead of them making a Vulcan a romantically interesting character but Blalock really brings it even when the writing doesn’t. The vulcan masseuse stuff started out pretty trashy but they turned it around and Terra Prime was a really solid final episode.

There’s so many parallels between Trip and T’Pol and John and Aeryn between the guys both getting cloned and the women falling for the clones, circumstances forcing them to forget each other, meeting future selves, mother-in-law issues, babies kidnapped, but Farscape always took it to 11.

In the first season, Trip was my least favorite character. But he undergoes real growth and his romance with T’Pol while pretty vanilla worked ok. It felt like they needed to fight to be with each other a bit more though, like John and Aeryn do in Farscape, ironically enough.

The later half of the show suffers I think from too much “remember TOS?” stuff. Not really any standout new ideas. But the characters come together a lot more. Except poor Travis. Doomed to just be that smiling face in front of Archer.

Home is a really nice episode. It maybe doesn’t hold a candle to Picard rolling in the mud but how it reflects on the militarized prior season and T’Pol’s story is pretty good. It felt really necessary particularly since the show went from one death in 2 seasons to 27 in just the third.

Which is a shame because I liked Silik and the Suliban and thought it would have been interesting to have Silik become part of the crew to add some alien diversity. By the end it seems like Shran takes that place which is fine because he was also great.

A lot of the non-Xindi episodes were pretty good. I generally liked all of the Klingon episodes of the show, which I can’t say for TNG. The temporal cold war idea completely spun out of control and evaporated and most episodes about it were unsatisfying.

Season 3’s concept of the dangerous beeline mission is great but I disliked a lot about the actual Xindi and their grievance. It felt like bad Farscape “wouldn’t it be cool if…” without much thought to the implications. I thought there was a lot of wasted potential with the expanse.

Season 2 has some really great episodes and a couple of the worst of the show. The crossing might be the 2nd worst episode of the whole show imo because of the ending. Night in sickbay is also really bad. But Carbon Creek, Regeneration, Stigma, all good. Sadly a lot of good but unsatisfying ones too
