Intrigued by this lung protector amongst the medical items on display in #InvararyJail - 1800s
Looks like a respirator mask idea
Never fails to surprise how the airborne infection concept regresses and even disappeared so comprehensively over the last few decades.

Still familiar - just an electric bulb in place of a mirror, and two eye pieces for binocular vision - but the counting chamber looks similar
On a daily basis we still rely on basic Gram stain microscopy to help choose antibiotics

The wonderful attention to ventilation by prison improvement efforts of the Victorian era are inspiring.
Inverary “new” prison focussed on plenty fresh air through natural ventilation. Over 150 years ago.
Mind you watch out where the exhaust is placed - wouldn’t like to walk past this

I would urge NHS staff to be very very careful when they speak up.
Process exists but its safety and efficacy to deliver what it should is very much in the lacking evidence domain.
Indeed we are awash with evidence that it’s a dangerous enterprise for the speaker upper.
We need better.

History is a strange thing. A mere 85 years ago - stout hearts from the UK endured “the worst journey ever” to assist Russia. Astonishing hardships.

The aphid plague is upon us.
But, against the odds we have some roses and I have to say it counts as one of my best achievements in life

A wee bee keeping company with the gardening.
Mostly it’s aphids, snails, Lilly beetles, slugs and moulds of all sorts so this and the butterfly brought encouragement.

I think we’ve got to the stage where all learning and investigative processes within toxic NHS settings need to be fully externalised with oversight from patients and staff advocacy groups.
In scotland political toxicity excludes reasonable discourse when things go wrong.
We need reason back.

Heard of the sad passing of a friend today.
She cared so deeply about patient safety and better NHS culture.
Dr Sarah Jenkins your light shone in a dark place. Your story will be told.
Miss you.
Deepest condolences to those who loved her.

Not panic buying because the world’s gone belly up, but dimly thought 25 kg of cake flour may fit in a jar on a shelf.
That’s us sorted for cakes during Armageddon. Thanks internet shopping. Again.
