I’ve been in a room with Putin. He calls Ukrainians “Russians with accents.” His real fear isn’t NATO expansion, it’s democracy expansion. It shatters his entire argument for dictatorship at home. Because if Ukrainians embrace freedom, Russians may demand the same.

🚨 Brussels, today 🚨 Ursula! Fight for Europe – not for Trump’s tech bros.

Today, as the EU caves to pressure from Trump & Big Tech, campaigners in Brussels call on @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu to stand up for Europe and enforce our digital laws ✊#StandUpUrusla

Such a desperately sad headline. I feel like every time politicians think of something like this, they should go through the mental exercise of replacing the words "asylum seekers" with "Jews fleeing the Nazis" and see how that resonates with their conscience.

This will become a major issue in Europe too - in some places it already is. Data centres drive up the price of elecricity and suck up scarce water resources. The profits that are generated by Big Tech flow out of Europe largely untaxed.

🙌We are joining 127 organisations demanding the Commission to halt its highly damaging digital omnibus.

The Commission's leaked proposal threatens to:
❌Pause the AI Act
❌Weaken the GDPR to enable AI companies to hoover up personal data

This would be a major Big Tech win

If today’s vote on Omnibus I passes with EPP+ECR+Patriots support, it establishes the operational majority for the rest of von der Leyen's term

This will have major economic and societal consequences at the time these groups chose Trump over the EU

When industry says “simplify” they mean “deregulate”. ‘Deregulation’ means less privacy, more consumer harms, less competition, and fewer safeguards. The tech bros will get even richer and Europeans will pay the price. Let’s not allow Big Tech and its authoritarian allies to tell the EU what to do.
In 1843, Ada Lovelace pioneered computer programming with her #algorithm. 🧠 Today, red tape could bug the system.

🧭 Be bold. Be ambitious. Simplify EU tech rules. #UnlockEUInnovation

Tesla’s profit fell 37% in the third quarter. It's been in the process of laying off 14,000 workers. It had more cars impacted by recalls than any other brand in 2024.

Yet Elon Musk just got a pay package worth $1 trillion.

American capitalism is off the rails.

We are letting Big Tech steal our data, undermine our privacy, avoid our taxes, kill our companies, exhaust our natural resources, harm our kids, prop up the Kremlin, and enable scammers. And the EU responds by *deregulating*?

With the official prognosis giving one additional seat to PVV and one to FvD compared to the ext poll, the narrative should really not be that the Netherlands/Jetten has beaten the radical right. The far right bloc remains remarkably stable.

Latest tally sees D66 & PVV neck-and-neck. A centrist coalition has a big majority but faces hurdles. 4-party rightwing coalition is now just short of a majority. Talks will take time, but caretaker govt now only has 26 seats (out of 150), and parliamentary dynamics change immediately. (NOS image)
