Probably pondering:
1. how history, religion, education, civic engagement shape society and/or
2. sustainable community building, biking, walking, transit, trees, urban design #okc #cargobike #bikebus #mobilitycommissioner
And then they pull these shenanigans. Come on

Just reading my 5th grader's social studies textbook. 👀

I grasp the basics but also as a parent of three with limited financial resources and no family nearby these just seem really, really hard to pull off.
(Yes, I have a village, cultivated great relationships, swap care, emotional support, etc. but also THE ENTIRE SYSTEM is stacked against this?)

😬 I’m an elder millennial with three kids so what do I know but this stat reported by @theweek.com feels like it plays into that whole “women don’t want to have babies” backstory.

Our librarians know my kids' names. They loan my toddler a stool and save him books to put in the book drop. When community helpers love on kids, the kids grow up to love on their community. He may be small, but he knows he's welcome at @metrolibrary.bsky.social #shapingcitizens #raisingreaders

Reading this book right now and it is confirming so many things I'd pieced together on my own but didn't quite have the evidence to argue...

As a former middle school teacher I spent a fair amount of time helping parents recognize the importance of kids experiencing low stakes natural consequences for their own growth and mental health. Just thinking about this as a potential SecDef has his mom promising he’ll behave if he gets the job.

Ryan Walters providing job security for local journalism. (Laugh sob) @murrayevans.bsky.social and others need you to subscribe to The Oklahoman so you can be aware of the latest drain on already limited resources for our kids' education.

Curbside Chronicle is Oklahoma’s street paper created to provide both a voice and employment opportunities for people who are experiencing and at risk of homelessness. What great #bike content this month! #OKC #mobilitymatters

Entire front page of @theoklahoman is about education... and these three articles ARE connected. We're ranked one of the lowest states by many measures. As a parent, I'm exhausted by the relentless attacks from elected officials on our public school system.

If you haven't read this yet, it's a good time to. Short and comprehensible for a broader audience than academia.

I love watching kids organize their world.

I spend a lot of time looking at bike lanes and I confess I am still not entirely sure what is happening here. Yay for buffered lanes? But also a second unbuffered lane? This is the stuff that gets some folks so anti-bike.

As a resident of Oklahoma (in an affluent suburb, I knew OKC would be blue) I was fully prepared to be depressed, but lo!

In seriousness, though- The last time I walked away I was struggling to get the sizing right because translating from cm (oh Americans) is doable but part of my brain broke trying to see when one measurement ended and the other began. I share for the other tired parents out there. 😂 Love your work!

I'm buying donuts for the entire set of traffic engineers next Friday to get them out to see how pitting vehicles with a green yield across a crosswalk on the way to 4 schools within a quarter mile is a big problem. Maybe I'll wear the @tomflood.bsky.social tee I've been coveting.

There are so many wonderful things I love about my adopted state but SS Ryan Walters and his White Christian Nationalism is not one of them. I'm tired of my kids' education being a sandbox for right wing policies and unabashed grift.
