A podcast and newsletter discussing great music with the people who make it and the people who love it. (michaelsrecordcollection.com)
I'm usually quite positive when it comes to posting about music, but "(I Wanna Be) Your Underwear" by Bryan Adams is an absolutely awful song, even though there's some cool guitar work in it. The title alone should have made it a B-side that never saw the light of day.

There's so much going on stylistically in the second half of Ugly Kid Joe's "Everything About You." It shouldn't all work in the same song, but somehow it does. Might be a topic to consider for a future newsletter.

Sadly, this lyric gets more relevant daily:
"If you are not outraged
You haven't been paying attention
If you are not outraged
You haven't been listening"

Very sad to hear this. Scorpions headlined the first concert I ever saw. Show was a mini festival at Legend Valley, Ohio. The opening acts were Quiet Riot, Fastway, and Kick Axe. Incredible show. RIP Francis.

It's always fun talking with the legendary Robin McAuley. The new Black Swan album drops in late February and Robin was kind enough to return to the show to discuss it. Can't wait to bring you that story!

Next spin for me is the Bryan Adams classic, Cuts Like a Knife. I know many prefer Reckless, but I find there are a couple of throwaways on that record and I love every cut on CLAK. It was also my entry point to Bryan's music so there's a personal sentimental attachment.

Every time I listen to A Trick of the Tail, I am amazed that there were Genesis fans at the time who listened to this and thought, "Nope, unacceptable without Peter Gabriel." This is a stunningly great album and includes every facet of the Genesis that came before.

Possibly my favorite Rob Reiner film (although there are so many) is The Sure Thing starring John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga. Great film and look at that soundtrack! RIP Mr. and Mrs. Reiner.

Listening to Big Country this morning and just can't say enough about the late Stuart Adamson. Incredible vocalist, musician, and songwriter. Should have been a global superstar. Insanely talented guy and I wish he was still with us, making new music.
