Exactly! This is a very important point that doesn’t get enough attention. The country has failed these people decades ago. We built all these weapons for the Cold War and never really considered how education was just as crucial to our democracy.

But the economic theory of moral hazard begs the question which is partly political…that if we keep subsidizing bad behavior are we really helping? There’s never any correction. Worse we set up a scenario where the GOP is essentially incentivizing the problem instead of helping fix it.

We didn’t bailout Bear Stearns or Lehman for Moral Hazard…it would reward bad management and encourage it.
