I love writing, but it is often very difficult for me to sit down and focus on a project. Competition can help. Or a reward.

More often I just pull open a note-taking app and start writing random stuff that pops into my head

Maybe someday you'll be famous and someone will be praising your work in an interview

And then someone will bring up your *early* work, and you'll cringe, and some of the audience will, too

And then one weird guy from the back will shout out, "I liked your early work *better*"

Here on Bluesky, there's a "Not NaNo" feed for those, as well as a "Nanowrimo & Alternative" feed that includes people who still call it by the original name.

Some of the most common hashtags this year were FirstDraftFall, NovNov, and various spellings of Novelember.
