It’s much older than Blavatsky’s Theosophy though. The square is Saturn, the material/manifested world. But square’s association with green is uniquely 19th century Theosophy

Bartholdi clearly intended these resonances. I like the idea we can simply acknowledge this as fact and consider instead why he chose to monumentalize these ancient symbols at the opening of Modernity.
