The @hope.net conference has been kicked out of St John's University.

Someone found a pamphlets that promoted "an anti-police agenda", complained to the university, which launched an investigation and announced they're kicking out HOPE, all without communicating to the organizers.
What we're told - and what we find rather hard to believe - is that all of this came about because a single person thought we were promoting an anti-police agenda. They had spotted pamphlets on a table which an attendee had apparently brought to HOPE that espoused that view. Instead of bringing this to our attention, they went to the president's office at St. John's after the conference had ended. That office held an investigation which we had no knowledge of and reached its decision earlier this month. The lack of due process on its own is extremely disturbing.

Executive Office of the President By the way, one of those OAuth2 validations is for an email address that has the domain who.eop.gov. The who part is "White House Office," and the eop part is "Executive Office of the President." I spent some time digging into this particular person based on his work phone number, work email address, and his name, all of which I found in this dataset. I haven't yet found anything egregious, but here are some of the interesting highlights: He's a member of the "POTUS | ROME-VATICAN | PRESS GC" Signal group. He's a young white conservative man. Last August, before Trump's inauguration, he posted on LinkedIn that he was starting a position at Donald J. Trump For President 2024, Inc. Also according to LinkedIn, he got his bachelor degree from the University of Alabama in 2024. I found him on Tinder, and it included his birthday. He was born in 2001, and today is his birthday! He just turned 24. Someone with his same username has logged 680 hours of Fortnite. His Venmo transactions are open, lol.

I'm analyzing the TM SGNL source code and will publish findings tomorrow. But the for a sneak peak, here's how it seems TeleMessage's system works:

There's E2EE between TM SGNL and Signal, but NOT between TM SGNL and archive destinations. TM's archive server can read the chat logs.

One hacked message was sent to a group chat apparently associated with the crypto firm Galaxy Digital. One message said, “need 7 dems to get to 60.. would be very close” to the “GD Macro” group. Another message said, “Just spoke to a D staffer on the senate side - 2 cosponsors (Alsobrooks and gillibrand) did not sign the opposition letter so they think the bill still has a good chance of passage the senate with 5 more Ds supporting it.” This means a hacker was able to steal what appears to be active, timely discussion about the efforts behind passing a hugely important and controversial cryptocurrency bill; Saturday, Democratic lawmakers published a letter explaining they would oppose it. Bill cosponsors Maryland Sen. Angela Alsobrooks and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand did not sign that letter.
