I just assembled this kit (char version technically) and yeah I kept getting surprised by slapping a panel over a bunch of little details.
It'd be neat to incorporate some weathering/damage using it.

My project desk is a cheap IKEA desk with wheels screwed in instead of the feet.
I don't have wall space for it but now it can float around in the center of the room.
I've also got a power strip attached to it, you could screw in some storage boxes to have something to cover in gay kissing.

The "reasonable" conclusion I've seen is that it's relatively expensive to turn it back on, because something has to go re-process all your photos every time.
But because they're scummy it doesn't say "can only be reenabled twice" or something like that, it tries to lock you in.

IIUC the difference is what happens if you do a save after doing the save-as/export.
If you're working on file A, then export to B, then make a change and save it'll be in A.
If you're working on file A, then save as for B, then make a change and save it'll be in B.
