I know someone who worked there entire career, retired from there. Entire family sent to university's from that income ... voted for Trump 3 times. Actively blocked rational steps on climate action for decades. So perhaps it is not as bad as it seems. Grifting and blocking of actual talent.

I think over the last few decades we have created a culture of violence and worship of all things military which amplifies the gun love. An oath to defend the constitution has been spun into enabling hate and justifying murder and racism.

Throwing money at something does not make it possible and nature does not care about human marketing. Who do we even trust to work on the science? Have our political systems shown the ability to do any of this wisely? Right now the Fusion reactor 93 million miles away is the only one we need.
