Howard Hall originally was to be called "Old Students Hall," because the funds for construction were solicited from Notre Dame graduates and other former students.
By 1925 it was named Howard Hall, in honor of ND grad and Prof Timothy Howard.

Sister Francis Jerome died in 1948. In her will, she left a $500K family inheritance to the college for the Moreau fine arts complex that was being planned at the time. The auditorium was named in her honor.

(More than 4,500 women earned ND degrees before 1972.)

O'Laughlin Auditorium at Saint Mary's College, which opened in 1956.

Named for Sister M. Francis Jerome O’Laughlin, CSC, Notre Dame Class of 1917 (M.A.), who was a longtime VP at Saint Mary's. She was one of ND's first two female grads.
