The Doug Ford government wants to give itself the power to dictate more of the rules around how Ontario protects its drinking water.

It claims it's doing so to boost housing and infrastructure.

This summer was consumed by debate over provincial and federal fast-tracking laws, new pipelines and LNG plants. But Canada still has a climate plan -- and oil and gas companies have been lobbying the Carney government over it. The government says it will update that plan by the end of this year:

Carney is visiting Fort Smith. It's north of Fort Chipewyan, the site of a federal study into the health impacts of oilsands pollution. For years, the community has believed industrial leaks contribute to high cancer rates. Mikisew Cree First Nation has invited Carney to visit, to see for himself:
