The ongoing trend of lows riding through northern France recently does make me think that'll probably be the more favoured solution. It does feel like they've been battered with strong winds a fair amount recently!

In short, the idea of high latitude blocking establishing itself through the early part of December looks like it may be hampered by this stronger vortex so colder air struggles to move in. It seems the milder/unsettled period to start December may last longer than expected.

The troposphere itself, without this stratospheric interference, would likely actually be pushing towards more focus for high latitude blocking but this of course adds a spanner into the works. Two factors competing head to head but a strong vortex certainly won't help!

Bit of a fun fact:
This is also likely colder than any daily maximum was during the winter of 2019/20 as well.
